Newgrange (24th July 2007)

We went to the Boinne Visitor Centre to go on a guided tour to the Passage Tomb at Newgrange. This is a Megalithic Passage Tomb that was built about 3200 BC. The kidney shaped mound covers an area of over one acre and is surrounded by 97 kerbstones, some of which are richly decorated with megalithic art. The 19 metre long inner passage leads to a cruciform chamber with a corbelled roof. The only pity was that we were not allowed to take any photos of the inside of the tomb since it is consiered as sacred.

The most interesting thing that happens in this tomb is that the passage and chamber of Newgrange are illuminated by the winter solstice sunrise. A shaft of sunlight shines through the roof box over the entrance and penetrates the passage to light up the chamber. The dramatic event lasts for 17 minutes at dawn from the 19th to the 23rd of December.

Bray (16th July 2007)

Yes finally we have a car....... :) Today we visited Bray. Our Maltese friend who also lives here joined us. First we.......well mostly me stopped to feed the geese. After that we had a walk by the beach. Then we decided to climb on the mountains. It was very tiring but at the end very worth it. The view from up there was breath taking.

Pheonix Park (15th July 2007)

This is Dublin's playground - the largest urban enclosed park in Europe, with a Circumference of 11km (7m) and a total area of 712 hectares (1,760 acres). Ornamental gardens, nature trails, and broad expanses of grassland, separated by avenues of trees, including oak, beech, pine, chestnut, and lime. Livestock graze peacefully on pasturelands, deer roam the forested areas, and horses romp on polo fields.

Wicklow Mountains (9th July 2007)

Beautiful place to be :)

Riverdance (6th July 2007)

Riverdance was fabulous. I enjoyed every minute of it. Carlo enjoyed it as well although he had a 5 minute nap at one point :)
