At around 11.30 we went to the city centre to see the major fireworks. It was crazy, lots of people. They lit fireworks from every corner and from the middle of crowds. It was quite an experience. At midnight the sky was so colourful and beautiful.

Sinterklaas (5ht December 2006)

In Holland people believe that St. Nicholas comes from Spain. The Spanish sailors believed in St. Nicholas as their guardian Saint. They must have told the Dutch sailors about this and the Dutch sailors must have taken that back to Holland. In Holland the name given to St. Nicholas is "Sinterklaas". This is celebrated on the 5th of December. The children get lots of candies and they are entertained by Sinterklaas's helpers who are called Zwarte Pete. Sinterklaas visits all the schools in Holland and gives presents to all the children.
